A proud Fredericksburg native, Zach is excited to be back on deck this summer as Head Coach of the Spotsy Dragons. A lifelong swimmer and product of both the RSL and year-round swim communities, he began his swimming career with the Salem Fields Sunfish before continuing with Regency and the RAYS. His passion for the sport runs deep, and he is committed to helping young swimmers build confidence, develop strong technique, and discover a lifelong love of swimming.
Zach is a graduate of Riverbend High School and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal/Choral Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. He currently serves as the Director of Choral Activities at North Stafford High School, where he leads a state level recognized choral program, and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Old Dominion University. In addition to his work in music education, Zach serves as Director of Sacred Music at St. Jude in Fredericksburg and Head Swim Coach for Chancellor High School. Whether in the classroom, on the pool deck, or in the community, he is passionate about creating environments where young people feel challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Dedicated to the mission of RSL summer swimming, Zach brings enthusiasm, experience, and a genuine love for coaching to every practice and meet. He believes that the best teams are built on encouragement, sportsmanship, hard work, and having fun along the way. Outside the pool, you'll likely find him cheering on his students, directing a choir rehearsal, or planning the next themed swim meet. And yes…pineapple still absolutely belongs on pizza. Sorry, not sorry!
Shawn Dillard just graduated from Chancellor High School and will be furthering his education at Averett University in the fall. This will his first time coaching the Dragons as an assistant and he is incredibly excited for it! He is excited to give his knowledge and work with Coach Zach to help these incredible kids win finals! Go Dragons!
